3rd November 2014

A moderate southerly wind and overcast conditions with light rain during the morning. Seawatching produced 15 Red-throated Divers heading south, a Great Northern Diver, one Manx Shearwater, five Shoveler, a Velvet Scoter flying south and one Pomarine Skua north. A total of 410 Little Gulls flew south (with 55 north), two Common Terns lingered offshore, whilst two Twite flew south and six Snow Buntings flew in off the sea; the two Snow Buntings also remained in residence.

Sixteen Whooper Swans flew south during the morning (a five and a flock of 11) and a Black Redstart remained near the Coastguard building. However, better still, the year’s first Water Pipit was discovered on the beach at South Landing during the afternoon.
