The day began with overcast skies and a light southerly breeze which backed south-east and strengthened during an afternoon dominated by sunny skies. During the morning seawatch two Eider, eight Common Scoter, four Red-throated Divers, 13 Manx Shearwaters and 26 Sandwich Terns flew north.
The day’s highlight was the mid-morning discovery of a singing Blyth’s Reed Warbler in a mature hedge on the outer head; the first local record since October 2007. Also new for the year, a Spoonbill graced Thornwick Pools from mid-afternoon. Additional sightings included two Pink-footed Geese, a drake Tufted Duck, one Wigeon, a Hobby, single Dunlin and Little Ringed Plover, two Spotted Flycatchers, one Wheatear and a Siskin.
