A moderate southerly airstream developed during a sunny day, with temperatures reaching 19 degrees C. The day’s most impressive sighting related to a flock of eight Great White Egrets that flew south-east past RSPB Bempton Cliffs at 1830hrs and the Fog Station at 1844hrs.
Eight Long-tailed Skuas were the highlight of a seawatch that also featured 123 Sooty Shearwaters, 55 Manx Shearwaters and a Balearic Shearwater moving north. Other counts included 146 Pink-footed Geese heading south, two Goosander, 476 Common Terns, 36 Little Gulls, 84 Arctic Skuas and 19 Bonxies. Three Minke Whales and the Thresher Shark were also off the Fog Station. Other notable records from the outer head included another skein of 210 Pink-footed Geese flying south, four Little Egrets, one Jay, a Mistle Thrush, one Brambling, 1230 Linnets and seven Corn Buntings.
A total of 140 Pink-footed also flew south over RSPB Bempton Cliffs, where a Raven, one Goldcrest and a Grey Wagtail were recorded.
