A day of two halves that began with very light winds, sunny intervals and temperatures that reached 19 degrees C; but ended with blustery northerlies and temperatures no higher than 13 degrees. Two juvenile Long-tailed Skuas were recorded during seawatching along with four Sooty Shearwaters and 24 Little Gulls. Wildfowl were again prevalent with 59 Wigeon, 11 Pintail and 125 Teal flying past the Fog Station. A further 215 Teal and 27 Wigeon were in the bay off Beacon Hill, where an ‘argentatus’ Herring Gull and first-winter Mediterranean Gull were also present. A Hobby overflew the outer head, while single Redwing, Spotted Flycatcher and Grey Wagtail were at South Dykes.
Records from RSPB Bempton Cliffs included five Snipe, 11 Dunlin, a Merlin, one Sand Martin, ten Chiffchaffs, a Grey Wagtail, 30 Chaffinch and three Siskin.
