A day of increasing south-west/southerly winds, sunny intervals after an overcast start and temperatures reaching 18 degrees C. Seawatching was rewarded with a Gadwall, 63 Wigeon, 774 Teal (record day count, surpassing the previous best of 651), 74 Common Scoter, 30 Red-throated Divers and a juvenile Long-tailed Skua all flying south; two Sooty Shearwaters moved north, whilst an adult Sabine’s Gull and first-winter Yellow-legged Gull and Mediterranean Gull lingered offshore. Sightings on the headland included two Pink-footed Geese, four Whimbrel, one Swift, a Yellow-browed Warbler near North Landing, three ‘continental’ Song Thrush, 15 Whinchat, three Stonechat, two Redstarts, one Pied Flycatcher and four Grey Wagtails.
Sightings from RSPB Bempton Cliffs included one Swift, a Redwing, one Fieldfare, two Garden Warblers, two Pied Flycatchers and a minimum of two Bottlenose Dolphins.
