The day started with moderate south-west winds and overcast skies, with sunshine later and temperatures reached 17 degrees C. Seawatch highlights included two Shoveler and two Tufted Ducks flying south, three Goosander, single Blue Fulmar and a Woodcock north, juvenile Iceland Gull and Glaucous Gull south (the latter a different individual to that of recent days), together with single Common Tern, Hooded Crow and Swallow north. In addition, a Minke Whale moved north 800m offshore.
Thornwick Pools hosted three Little Ringed Plovers. Pride of place amongst passerine migrants was a Firecrest along the ‘motorway’ south of the Lighthouse. Three Hooded Crows were located at Oceanview and additional sightings included 11 Sand Martins, 56 Redwing, five Wheatears, six White Wagtails and five Siskin.
West of the Dykes, a male Snow Bunting was at Bempton Cliffs RSPB.
