5th July 2015

A day of light variable winds, sunny intervals followed by showers from late afternoon and temperatures that reached 18 degrees C. Seawatch highlights included  four Manx Shearwaters flying south, 38 Common Scoters moving north, 13 Knot and seven Redshank flying south, four Sandwich Terns south and two Arctic Terns moving north. A Bonxie again lingered offshore, whilst a Whimbrel flew north over the Outer Head.

Thornwick Pools attracted a Grey Heron, one Dunlin and a Green Sandpiper; further evidence of waders on the move related to a flock of 13 Redshank that circled low over the Pool before heading off south. More unusually, a Turtle Dove flew south past the Lighthouse in the morning.
