Sunny intervals and light winds in the morning preceded overcast skies and a blustery south-westerly airstream in the afternoon; temperatures reached 19 degrees C. Two Cory’s Shearwaters and a Great Shearwater flew north during a morning seawatch that also featured five Little Gulls, 28 Arctic Skuas, 19 Sooty Shearwaters and 29 Manx Shearwaters. A skein of 24 Pink-footed Geese south over Bempton and Flamborough village was the first of autumn, while a Pintail dropped onto Thornwick Lakes. Three Little Egrets toured the outer head, while passerine interest included two Spotted Flycatchers and a Tree Pipit.
Additional sightings from RSPB Bempton Cliffs included a Merlin, a Spotted Flycatcher and nine Chiffchaffs; the latter species more evident across the headland. A Clouded Yellow was also seen on the reserve.
