Monday 22nd July

A sunny and warm day with strong south-westerly wind. Seawatch records included eight Common Swifts, along with 23 Common Scoter, 10 Manx Shearwater, 36 Whimbrel, 39 Knot, 5 Dunlin, 221 Sandwich Tern and an Arctic Skua.

Birds moving at Bempton included a Red Kite, juvenile Mediterranean Gull (which later passed the fog station), 19 Whimbrel, Knot and a Ruff.

On the land: a Cuckoo was at Oceanview and the Short-eared Owl continued to hunt the lighthouse grassland. Also still in residence was the drake Shovler on Thornwick Pool, along with 2 Green Sandpiper, 4 Dunlin and a Little Ringed Plover.
