26th September 2019

The weather consisted of moderate south-westerly winds, temperatures reaching 18 degrees C in spells of sunshine which were punctuated by heavy showers or longer spells of rain. During the seawatch, ten Wigeon, 27 Teal, 46 Red-throated Divers, 13 Knot, a Mediterranean Gull and five Arctic Skuas flew south; a single dark-bellied Brent Goose and a Sooty Shearwater headed north. Thornwick Pools attracted two Pink-footed Geese, 13 Teal, two Dunlin and a juvenile Little Stint; the latter a colour-ringed individual originally rung at Makkevika Giske, Giske, More & Romsdal in Norway on 10th September. The Cetti’s Warbler was heard singing at South Landing once more, whilst ten Goldcrests represented an increase. Elsewhere on the headland, RSPB Bempton Cliffs attracted a Yellow-browed Warbler.
