Traditionally THE birding month began with light west-south-winds, sunny skies and a high of 19 degrees C. A morning seawatch was rewarded with a Balearic Shearwater, one Long-tailed Skua, five Arctic Skuas, eight Little Gulls and 30 Red-throated Divers. Sightings on the land included two Grey Plovers, 30 Lapwing, at least six Jays, two Willow Warblers, 13 Yellow-browed Warblers, a Spotted Flycatcher, 12 Brambling and three Siskin.
Two Yellow-browed Warblers remained at RSPB Bempton Cliffs, where additional migrants included two Willow Warblers, a Whitethroat, two Pied Flycatchers, two Redstarts, 150 Song Thrush, 17 Brambling and four Redpolls. Three Yellow-browed Warblers were also in residence at Buckton.
