Start the new year with an inspiring afternoon celebrating wildlife, art, and conservation. This special event brings together a fascinating talk by Richard Baines about his book ‘The Rarity Garden’ followed by a unique art auction, and the chance to support important conservation work at Flamborough.
We hope you’ll join us for an afternoon of insight, wonder, and celebration of the natural world on The Great White Cape. We look forward to welcoming you!
‘The Rarity Garden‘
Join us as Richard Baines tells the remarkable story that led to this fascinating book. Richard lived on Flamborough Headland for ten years observing wildlife in and from his cliff-top garden. During this time he kept extensive journals documenting his sightings and findings. Experience the magic, the close-up encounters, and the extraordinary variety of species that shaped this unforgettable project. Come and share the enthusiasm, knowledge and care of this very experienced naturalist.

Richard’s newly published book has already received glowing praise:
“This is a beautifully produced book, filled with stunning photographs and maps. Ultimately, it’s a memoir that isn’t so much about the author, or even the place, but the very wonder and pleasure of being truly invested in nature.”
BTO News Review, Autumn 2025
Signed copies of the book will be available at the event.
Art Auction: Original Artwork by Ben Green
After the talk, stay for an exclusive auction of original illustrations from The Rarity Garden, created by artist Ben Green. Ben’s artwork brings the book’s wildlife encounters to life, and he has generously donated all original pieces to support bird conservation and access improvements at Flamborough. This is a rare opportunity to own a unique piece of artwork while directly contributing to a vital local cause. You can browse through all of the artwork below.
