Another hot day under bright skies, very light winds and a high of 27 degrees C. Thornwick Pools attracted five Black-tailed Godwits, two Snipe and a Common Sandpiper. A Great White Egret flew in off the sea at South Landing early morning where three Eider and a juvenile Mediterranean Gull were also present. Single Hobby overflew Head Farm and South Dykes, while six Golden Plovers headed over Lighthouse Road. Passerine interest on the outer head included eight Willow Warblers, a Garden Warbler, a Whinchat and 13 Yellow Wagtails.
Two Pied Flycatchers were in residence at RSPB Bempton Cliffs, where a headline-grabbing Thresher Shark breached twice offshore. A Short-eared Owl also hunted the cliff top fields there late evening.
